From my Desk: Rape

There’s no easy way to introduce this topic. The simple fact is that America has a huge rape problem. According to rain (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) 1 in 6 girls has bee the victim of rape or an attempted rape. I personally know 5 girls off of the top of my head that have been raped and I’m sure there are more that I know that have been raped that I do not know about. That’s a very sad and horrifying statistic. Both of my previous girlfriends have been raped. One of my girlfriends was raped by someone she knows which is often the case. One girl was raped multiple times. Another I know was raped by a family member. Her other family members refused to do anything about it. Because of this she grew up thinking things like that are ok and that she was broken. She has lived a rough life, serving in bars and places like hooters. Another girl didn’t tell anyone till she confessed to my group at church camp when she was 16! One of my girlfriends suffered flashbacks, blackouts, and panic attacks.

Why do I bring all this up? I talk about this because its unjust and its wrong. The way to fight back and heal our nation is to talk about these things. We must educate ourselves so that we can deal with this terrible issue and help those affected heal. One of my friends Becky Stevenson, who has graduated from Baylor has started a non-profit website to give personal and legal advice, as well as provide personal stories so others can relate and know how to handle a very difficult situation. The website is If you or someone you know has been affected by rape please go to this website and see what it has to offer. If you would like to submit your story as well on the website you can do so. With resources like these we can help pave the way to a better future.
